By now everyone that follows Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has heard that Light Heavyweight Champion Jon « Bones » Jones has tested positive for cocaine. But is there more to this human drama than meets the eye? What lengths would the UFC go to to protect the franchise and cash cow represented by the « world’s best pound for pound fighter »?

On December 4, 2014, upon his return from Brazil, Jon Jones was subjected to a random drug test mandated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to screen for Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) in the run up to his championship title defense against Daniel « DC » Cormier scheduled for January 3, 2015. Apparently the screening included a check for street drugs as well as PEDs. The results were received by the UFC on December 24 but kept under wraps until Yahoo News…
