Technically, speaking they are the same type of drug but they significantly different in the ways in which they are composed of as well as their impacts on society. Most people will probably be similar with the topic enough to know that coke is snorted yet crack is smoked (although crack is also sometimes injected). However, there is more to the story. Crack is made from taking large amounts of cocaine powder and adding water and either ammonia or baking soda to the mixture that is boiled and dried (and no I have no intention of giving cooking instructions, I just want to explain the science behind it). It gets its name from the cracking sound that happens when it succumbs to heat in a glass pipe.
