
Istanbul police seize 260 tons of chemicals used in making bonzai
Narcotics and elite Special Operations Units in Istanbul confiscated over 9 tons 153 kilograms of narcotics as part of extensive operations in the past year, according to new data released by the Istanbul Police Department.
The police also nabbed over 6.5 million pills in these operations, a 17 percent increase in the number of narcotics seized compared to the previous year.
A total of 685 operations were conducted in the city, where police detained over 63,000 suspects, arresting 5,833 of them. The data show that there has been a 39 percent increase in the number of suspects nabbed in narcotics operations and a 15 percent increase in the number of arrested compared to the year 2017.
Turkish authorities utilize various ways to track narcotics in the country and a new system will be installed to track narcotic content in the waste waters of metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Adana.
