Police believe an alleged drug « kingpin » who is already in custody in
the United Kingdom organised a failed $1 billion drug smuggling ring, uncovered when a yacht ran aground at WA’s Abrolhos Islands.

It comes four months after more than one tonne of ecstasy, cocaine and methylamphetamine was seized after a yacht named Zero was discovered stranded on a reef near Geraldton.
Acting WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch told ABC Radio Perth the 54-year-old man, who he referred to as the operation’s « kingpin », had been tracked to Jersey, one of the UK’s Channel Islands, and plans were underway to lay charges and extradite him to WA.
