Nearly seven years after Bolivia spent $215 million on radars to help fight drug trafficking, legal obstacles and a lack of resources continue to stymie their operation.
In August 2016, Bolivia purchased 13 radars from French company Thales, including seven for military use. One of the radars was intended specifically to detect planes carrying drugs, according to an El Deber report. Defense Minister Edmundo Novillo said those in charge of the project aim to put all into operation in September 2023.
