Authorities in Sonora, Mexico, seized 1.8 tons of cocaine in a trailer headed for the U.S. border.
The seizure took place at a military highway checkpoint this week in the northern border state of Sonora. The drugs were in the trailer of a semi coming from the Pacific Coast state of Nayarit, multiple Mexican news organizations reported.
The reports said the vehicle was supposed to be heading to Tijuana, but the checkpoint is just south of San Luis Rio Colorado, which borders San Luis, Arizona. Thatâs 150 miles away from its destination.
The soldiers found the drugs after instructing the driver to pull the commercial truck through a low-level X-ray machine and detecting anomalies in the cargo, La Jornada reported.
