Large quantities of crack cocaine and heroin have been seized by police as an operation to tackle drug dealers continues.

Three men were arrested and charged after substances worth £140,000 were recovered from two addresses in the Prestonfield area of the city.

Half a kilo of crack cocaine and three quarters of a kilo of heroin were discovered alongside 14 ounces of cannabis and around 10,000 diazepam tablets.

An amount of amphetamine, believed to be for personal use, was also seized.

The searches on Wednesday came just a day after police revealed they had seized drugs worth almost £100,000 from properties elsewhere in the Capital, including upmarket addresses in Stockbridge.

Three men, aged 55, 45 and 30, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday on charges relating to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

It is understood the latest raids centred on the former council housing scheme within the Prestonfield area.

Police refused to reveal the exact locations to avoid prejudicing their inquiries.
