INDONESIA: top-level narcotics enforcer busted in nightclub by his own agency

A HIGH-RANKING anti-drug enforcement officer in Indonesia landed in hot soup on Sunday after being caught in a nightclub raid conducted by officials from his own agency.

Commissioner Elly Jamaludin, who heads the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in North Maluku, was apprehended in a karaoke room of the nightclub situated in Central Ternate.

The raid on the seedy entertainment den was also jointly carried out by the military and the police.

According to Coconuts Jakarta, Elly was found in a state of panic and attempted to vindicate himself from being caught as a patron by pretending to be one of the officers. However, the officers did not fall for his ploy.

Denying that he was caught with alcohol and drugs, Elly claimed he came to monitor the raid, despite arriving earlier than the others. He also claimed to have signed the order form for his men to take part in the raid.

“So it’s not true. How could I have issued the letter of command for the raid if I was netted? That night I was participating in the monitoring of the operation,” Elly was quoted saying.

Rubbishing Elly’s claims, BNN national head Commissioner General Budi Waseso said Elly was not at all involved in the raid.

“His presence at the location was outside of this operation. He just signed an order for his members to join in the operation,” Budi said.

Elly now faces suspension from his position pending a full investigation into the case. He is also tipped to have his urine, blood, and hair samples tested to determine whether he had used any drugs.

Budi said legal action would be taken if the samples were found to be positive.

“BNN has already committed (that) members from top to bottom may not commit any violations related to drug abuse. There is no mercy,” he said.

UN rethinking war on narcotics strategy

ONUDCNEW YORK — The United Nations General Assembly gathered on Tuesday to rethink global strategy in the war on narcotics for the first time in two decades as activists, UN officials and world leaders cited an international trend towards more liberal drug laws.

Despite broad agreement on the need to deal with the global drug problem, there are deep divisions among the 193 UN member states, with some favouring a shift towards decriminalisation and a greater focus on reducing the harm caused both by narcotics abuse and the war on drugs.

DRUG: Iran Urges Europe’s Serious Contribution to Anti-Drug Fight

عبد الرضا رحمانی فضلیApril, 19, 2016
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s interior minister criticized Europe for its lack of support for the country’s battle against narcotics trafficking, calling on the United Nations to push the Europeans to cooperate more seriously with Tehran in the costly war.

Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, who is also head of Iran’s anti-drugs headquarters, held a meeting with Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Fedotov, in New York.

Briefing the UN official on Iran’s latest measures in the fight on narcotics, Rahmani Fazli said there has been a rise in the volume of illicit drugs confiscated in the Islamic Republic over the past Iranian year, which ended on March 19.

He explained that Iran’s efforts have prevented a considerable amount of drugs from being smuggled into Europe.

The minister also criticized the European states for lack of cooperation with Iran, including their failure to provide funds and equipment necessary for the drug fight.

Rahmani Fazli then asked Fedotov to ramp up efforts to encourage Western countries to launch a “serious and practical” campaign against narcotics.

Iran is on a major transit route for drugs being smuggled from Afghanistan to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug trafficking. The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Iranian police officers over the past three decades.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Iran is netting eight times more opium and three times more heroin than all other countries in the world combined.

IRAN: iranian Police Seize over 2 Tons of Narcotics in Southeastern Province

مخدراتApril, 20, 2016

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s anti-narcotics police have managed to seize over 2,200 kilograms of opium in two search and seizure operations in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, the provincial police chief said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said that, anti-narcotics forces recently identified a major drug ring in the city of Iranshahr involved in smuggling various kinds of illicit drugs.

In an overnight operation, the police forces managed to detect the smugglers’ vehicles and chased them at a main road connecting Iranshahr to Sarbaz.

After a while, the traffickers started shooting at police officers, the commander said, adding that they soon realized they could not confront the forces and fled the scene.

General Rahimi went on to say that 1,664 kg of opium were seized from the smugglers’ vehicles in the operation.

In another operation in Saravan, he said, police forces seized 563 kg of opium and 15 kg of morphine in a vehicle.

In recent decades, Iran has been hit by drug trafficking, mainly because of its 936- kilometer shared border with Afghanistan, which produces more than 90% of the world’s opium.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Islamic Republic is netting eight times more opium and three times more heroin than all other countries in the world combined.

Meth, Murder, and the DEA’s Mysterious Deal With the ‘Most Dangerous Man in the World’ | VICE News

Meth, Murder, and the DEA's Mysterious Deal With the 'Most Dangerous Man in the World'

By Keegan Hamilton

April 18, 2016

The mercenaries had gathered in Phuket, a tropical resort island off the west coast of Thailand, to discuss a job. They were supposed to safeguard 300 kilos of Colombian cocaine on its way from the Bahamas to New York and kill two people: One a DEA agent, the other his snitch, a ship’s captain who was leaking information about drug loads. Joseph Hunter, a burly former US Army drill sergeant nicknamed Rambo, briefed them on the assignment.

« It’s just like a military mission, » Hunter told the men, four ex-snipers from the US, German, and Polish armed forces. « This is real shit. You know, you see everything. You see James Bond in the movie and you’re saying, ‘Oh, I can do that.’ Well, you’re gonna do it now. Everything you see, or you’ve thought about, you’re gonna do. »

Hunter made sure the men knew what they were getting into, warning them about the consequences of stealing from their new employer.

« If you steal money, » he said, « they’re gonna kill you. »

The problem, Hunter explained, was that there were always people in their line of work who got greedy. He’d heard guys promise not to steal before, only for them to find a pile of cash and give into the impulse to take it and disappear.

« If they don’t find you, they’re gonna get your family, » Hunter said. « They’re gonna get your children, your mother, your father. I don’t know. Whoever they can get, they’re gonna get. ‘Cause yeah, you might be able to run and you might be able to hide, but they’re gonna get somebody. Everybody says that [they won’t steal] and a lot of people steal fucking money. When you’re standing there with a fucking million dollars, you’re like, ‘I can just take this million dollars and go away.' »

To hammer home the point, Hunter told them stories: How he’d once shot a guy in the hand, waterboarded another, and thrown a third overboard at sea to recover stolen money. He bragged about how easy it was to get away with murder in Africa. « It’s not like CSI, » he joked. « They don’t have all that shit. » Sometimes, instead of killing, his boss just set people up for prison. He’d done it before in the Philippines, where they had cops on their payroll.

« My boss, he doesn’t kill everybody, because it’s just not worth the trouble sometimes, » Hunter said. « But if you take, he does kill people. »

A investigação prossegue.
