La Sardegna si è affermata come la “serra” italiana della cannabis

Con un clima ideale e un proliferare di coltivazioni, l’isola detiene un primato incontestabile: 640 chili di droga sequestrati ogni 100mila abitanti, a fronte di una media nazionale di 131 chili. Un dato che la conferma la regione con il più alto sequestro pro capite d’Italia, superando di cinque volte il valore medio.

Il motivo è semplice: la marijuana in Sardegna non viene importata, ma coltivata. Nel 2024, su oltre 154mila piante di cannabis sequestrate in Italia, la gran parte proveniva da tre regioni: Calabria, Puglia e, appunto, Sardegna.

Two truckers have agreed to plead guilty in connection with a scheme to smuggle loads of cocaine from California to Ontario on behalf of fugitive Ryan Wedding’s criminal enterprise, CBC News has learned. 

Iqbal Singh Virk and Ranjit Singh Rowal from the Toronto area are the first Canadians to sign plea deals with U.S. prosecutors following the FBI’s sprawling investigation revealed last fall, dubbed « Operation Giant Slalom. »

The probe — named after Wedding’s previous career as an elite snowboarder — sought to dismantle his alleged drug trafficking network, which uses commercial transport trucks to move tonnes of cocaine and fentanyl across North America. The group has also been linked to at least four murders in Ontario.

WA Police have seized 40 kilograms of methamphetamine, a large amount of cash, firearms and a Ferrari in an organised crime bust in Perth.

Nine people have been charged following the operation.

It comes as methamphetamine use in regional WA and Perth continues to rise, with drug crime experts saying demand has exceeded pre-COVID levels.
